USUALLY WE WORSHIP AT THE TIMES LISTED BELOW:
Saturday 6pm - Informal 55 minute service which is very children friendly. Followed by a light meal. (supplied)
Sunday 8am - Our most 'traditional' service, including hymns, organ, choir. But it is still contemporary.
Sunday 9.45am - A service for all ages. Kids Alive (children's ministry) also takes place in this time. The children start in the church, then leave for groups. Music is led by a band, and also the organ for some songs.
Sunday 6pm - For the young at heart. Teenagers up to grandparents still seem to like this service, with the music led by a band. A light meal follows this service.
Tuesday 11am - A service for people who can't make it on the weekends, and like a relaxed service, which still includes hymns. Followed by a light lunch (supplied)
The Lord's Supper (Communion) is open to everyone who seeks Jesus. No matter what age, background, race, gender, sexuality, faith:- all who seek the Lord are welcome to the Lord's table. This is not the table of the Uniting Church, but the table of Jesus. The Lord's Supper is generally celebrated on the first weekend of the month at all services.
The church worship and community centre has full wheelchair access, and the worship centre has a hearing loop.
There are spaces in the worship centre where prams easily fit, and if you feel you would be more comfortable, there is a 'cry room' with full visual and audio access tot he worship centre.
Message from Sarah…. Donations grow
49% on last year! One thing that thrills me is that 49% growth also means 49%more people experiencing a deepening in discipleship, of following Christ more closely. $380,000 from you to the people living in extreme poverty– just imagine what this will mean to the project recipients? Clean water, basic
education, employment & support for orphans. New additional projects for 2009– East Timor—agricultural development; Solomon Islands– Health clinics.
TEAR AUSTRALIA - our November congregational project
November is the month Terrigal Uniting Church has been supporting TEAR AUSTRALIA.
TEAR AUSTRALIA works in partnership with local Christian organisations around the world and with indigenous Australians.
Inspired by Jesus' call to love our neighbours, regardless of background or belief, TEAR focuses on projects that seek to improve the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people, uniting communities and empowering men and women as they work together to direct their own future. Gift cards which support various projects in a number of countries will be available for sale before and after services during Nov.
"The Fairtrade Label is a “seal of approval” that appears on products that meet internationally agreed Fairtrade standards and which guarantees to consumers that their purchases will benefit the producers, their families and the surrounding communities from the developing countries that they originate from."
This coming Friday evening the Kids Alive 9.45 band are going to Northmead Uniting Church Kids Club to run an evening program with songs games, activities and stories.
This band is made up of primary and high school students, led by Chris Koelma, our music minister, and Michaela Prowse.
Giving the children opportunities to serve and be on mission at an early age helps them experience the miracle-working of the Holy Spirit.
This band is one of 6 bands (2 more adult 9.45 bands, groove band, Sat 6pm band (high school students plus Chris K & Dave Wakefield), and Sun 6pm band. (About 34 people!)
Thanks to Chris & other leaders & musicians/singers, 8am choir and organists in the music ministry who week by week cover the 5 services, weddings, funerals, plus other events such as Northmead Uniting, World Youth Day, etc.
If you would like to commit to the music ministry, contact Chris Koelma (church office or yomustuc@fastmail.com.au) or for 8am choir speak to Margaret Trewartha.
All our past 5 worship services have had the opportunity to be part of the Freedom Wall.
253 handprints were painted on the Freedom Wall last weekend, and the columns look great. Thank you for helping to raise awareness that 27 Million people worldwide are in forced labour, bonded labour, forced child labour & sexual servitude. We believe people shouldn’t be bought and sold. People trafficking is now the fastest growing form of
international crime.
If you missed out with getting your hand on the wall, please trace out your handprint on a piece of paper & put it under the reception door.

Researchers say giving leads to a healthier, happier life
Researchers say giving leads to a healthier, happier life
(The Christian Science Monitor)
'It's abundantly clear from a number of studies that people who live generous lives also live happier lives.'
– Stephen Post, bioethicist, Case Western Reserve University
So encouraging are empirical results on altruistic love, that Post and science journalist Jill Neimark have co-written a new book to share the findings, titled "Why Good Things Happen to Good People." The findings include, for example:
•Generous behavior reduces depression and risk of suicide in adolescents.
•Actively helping others during the teenage years promotes good physical and mental health all the way into late adulthood.
•Volunteerism on the part of older adults significantly reduces mortality.
•Giving to others enables people to forgive themselves for mistakes, a key element in well-being.
•Praying for others reduces health difficulties among older adults.

1 Cor 12:1-11 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says ‘Let Jesus be cursed!’ and no one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.
Following are a list of spiritual gifts mentioned or described in the bible.

Interesting Interaction Imagine that Jesus were coming to visit your home. What would you like to show him? What would you like to teach Jesus about where you live? To whom would you want to introduce Jesus?
Reflecting on the word
When Jesus was alive, most believed that some people were more important than others. Because of this belief, life was unfair for many people. Religious leaders could force people to follow difficult rules while they did not have to. But Jesus said all people are equally valued by God; no one is better than anyone else. We all have a lot to learn about living in God’s way and God is happy when we work together to learn and serve.
Idea to enjoy life
Think about people in your life who have formal titles such as a minister, police officer, school teacher, or doctor. Consider inviting this person to enjoy an informal fun activity with your household like a sporting event, game night, or nature hike.
Thought to take with you
Thought to take with you: Consider greeting others by bowing your head gently with the thought, “Those who are humble will be exalted.”
"WORLD VISION is doing a marvellous job in Burma/Myanmar & China. In support of their ministry, we will assist you (and as many who want to) to participate in the World Vision 40 hour famine from Fri 15 to Sun 17 Aug. Now there are more ways to participate apart from fasting from food. The 2008 famine will include targeting trafficking of people in India.

Global warming is the rapid and continued increase of the Earth's surface temperature. During the last century the earth warmed by 0.8°C. Now the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is projecting that global surface temperatures are likely to increase by 1.1 to 6.4 °C this century. Already nineteen of the hottest 20 years on record have occurred since 1980 with 2005 being the hottest year in recorded history while the east coast of Australia had its warmest May on record in 2007.
This warming is attributable to human activities that increase the levels of greenhouse gasses (GHGs) in our atmosphere. A natural amount of GHGs are essential for life on earth, it keeps our planet at just the right temperature by letting sunlight through but retaining only some of the heat. The increased concentration of GHGs in the atmosphere reduces the amount of the sun's warmth that is reflected back into space causing the Earth to become warmer.
